About me

Hello, my name is Glenn Johnson, and if you are looking for a professional writer or editor, you have come to the right place.

An important attribute for a writer and editor is a high level of education, and broad experience. I hold a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), and a Master of Arts from the University of Sydney in the field of linguistics. I am also a member of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) and listed on the Society of Editors NSW directory.

Since 2007 I have been a professional writer and editor, writing custom content of various kinds for my clients on a freelance basis. I also have a contract as the managing editor of a monthly print publication, Process Technology and its web site, with a subscription of around 7,000 readers – mainly technical professionals in the Australian manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, and food & beverage industries.

I started my career as a professional engineer, and in 1992 moved into the IT industry. Over the next 15 years I worked in various technical roles, as a trainer, as a technical recruiter, and finally winding up in information security, specialising in automated compliance reporting technology. I have also worked for a startup software company as Operations Manager.

I was awarded a masters degree in linguistics from the University of Sydney in 2000, and have developed an ongoing interest in cognitive and functional linguistics, and associated areas of cognitive science. I am fascinated by the encoding of meaning in language, and what this means for our understanding of ourselves and the messages we communicate.

The knowledge and experience I have acquired over many decades serve me well in researching and writing informative and effective content for my clients. I am always writing articles for publication in print, online and as eBooks or white papers. I also provide editing services to assist in the professional presentation of other authors’  communications, including theses for postgraduate and PhD students.
